Reporting to the Instrumentation/Electrical Product Director, the engineer performs a variety of design engineering tasks, including problem studies, concept analysis, stress analysis, report writing, drafting, and other tasks related to the instrumentation/electrical design of systems.
Constantly seeking innovative ideas, the engineer collaborates closely with designers to increase productivity, minimize development and manufacturing costs, and actively contributes to the standardization of processes and products. Always on the lookout for new suppliers, they select components and evaluate the technical aspects of various supplier-proposed products.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare concepts and specifications.
- Develop specifications and requirements for subcontractors.
- Explore original and alternative approaches to design or engineering challenges.
- Create technical drawings in electronic formats.
- Verify, revise, and validate final calculations and drawings, ensuring designs are feasible and cost-effective.
- Perform manual and/or computer-based analyses of concepts, engineering problems, and design flaws, recommending corrective actions when applicable.
- Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Identify new suppliers and evaluate alternative sources.
- Recommend component selection, research alternative sources, and request supplier quotes.
- Review supplier submissions and drawings.
- Write reports and correspondence related to assigned tasks.
- Conduct conceptual studies and R&D projects to advance the company’s technical expertise. Prepare weekly progress reports identifying obstacles and solutions.
- Provide support for installation and troubleshooting on job sites as needed.
- Adhere to budgets and schedules.
- Participate in on-site installations and apply ISO standards.
Your background and strengths:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- 8 years of experience in a similar position in high-tech industries.
- Experience in instrumentation.
- Proficiency in data acquisition (temperature, pressure, speed, vibration, etc.) and control systems (PLCs).
- Medium Voltage Electrical experience (distribution systems, speed drives, motors, transformers, electrical protection, SEL relays, etc.).
- Low Voltage Electrical experience (building wiring, motors, pumps, control panels, etc.).
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- Proficiency in basic software such as MS Project, Netscape/Internet Explorer, Word, Excel.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with ETAP software.
- Eager to deepen technical knowledge and skills.
- Experience in SMEs and high-tech environments.
- Familiarity with the operation and control of aircraft engines is an asset.
- Bilingual in French and English.
Additional Requirements:
The candidate must consistently demonstrate resourcefulness, independence, and the ability to deliver quality work with minimal supervision. They should be able to work under pressure and meet delivery deadlines.
The Instrumentation/Electrical Engineer may be required to travel.
